Bringing Hope To The Families of Bouake Recovering From War
UAA’ School Supply Program is kicking off for the 2013 school year. Kids of “Dar Es Salaam” school in Bouake ( pronounced Bwake) in the Ivory Coast.will be sitting at their desks on Tuesday Sept 3rd by the good graces of compassionate people like yourself. UAA’s goal is to equip 500 students with all that the ciricculum requires for the entire year to put a dent in the country’s 48% illiteracy rate . Each child will be supplied with a school kit that costs $40.00. In each kit will be: Shoes, a uniform, a backpack, text books ( reading math, etc) , exercise books, sketch pads, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler..
For a lot of these kids who would have been born soon after the end of a very bloody civil war, their education represents a positive movement towards reconstruction and stability in an area that was a central battleground for raids from rebel forces. Frence and United Nations Peacekeepers are a constant reminder of the thin line between the enforced ceasefire and the horrors of living in the middle of civil strife. For the parents who would have had to keep their children from an education because of it's unaffordable costs, this first day of school for their children represents a hope for a peace filled and positive re-construction of their war torn worlds.
We will be providing regular updates as the “School Supply program ‘ proceeds towards the target date of Sept. 3rd. If you can, please give towards this very important effort towards securing a self sustained and peace filled future for some fantastic and deserving children.
