RESILIENT LIVELIHOODS


RESILIENT LIVELIHOODS is FAO’s 2013 Programme to help the world’s most vulnerable people achieve food security and the freedom from hunger. Disaster risk reduction (DRR) is about protecting people’s livelihoods from shocks, and strengthening their capacity to absorb the impact of, and recover from disruptive events. DRR is a necessary ingredient for food and nutrition security, and for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal 1.

At the core of the DRR for Food and nutrition security Framework programme are four integrated thematic pillars:
1. Enable the environment: Institutional strengthening and good governance, policies and appropriate legislation.
2. Watch to safeguard: Information and early warning systems on food and nutrition security and other threats.
3. Apply prevention and mitigation measures with risk reducing technologies and best practices.
4. Prepare to respond effectively and recovery across all agricultural sectors, reduce negative impact on livelihood.
